Betrayed

I should have forgotten the way that you stared,
the thousands of passionate kisses we shared.

I should have forgotten the time that we spent,
the scrappy old love notes I continuously sent.

I should have forgotten your intoxicating smile,
maybe that way I could sleep every once in a while.

I should have forgotten the way you held my hand,
because when we touched my heart crumbled like sand.

I should have forgotten the natural beauty in your hair,
the way it intertwined like our destructive love affair.

I should have forgotten the lies you would say,
when you whispered in my ear you were here to stay.

I should have forgotten what you did that night,
your warm body chained to another so tight.

I should have forgotten the heartache you brought,
the vigorous mountains of addictions I fought.

I should have forgotten how careless you were,
the rumors sped by in a strenuous blur.

I should have forgotten your conniving ways,
but I remain unspoken in pretentious dismay.

And though I may not have moved on and forgotten like you,
if I had one wish, I would forget you too.

Such a beautiful poem - it's really depressing. And I love how you used couplets.

"when you whispered in my ear you where here to stay. " - I think you mean "were here to stay".

Yes, it's such a lovely poem.
